Announcing Affordable Farmland and Training at the Future Farm Appalachia, A Regenerative Enterprise Incubator located on 7000 acres in Eastern Kentucky
September 2024
I’m excited to share an incredible opportunity with The Wilds of Emily Creek, an eco-restoration project and rural business facilitated by the Appalachian Renewal Project and located in Kentucky They are seeking participants interested in helping them develop a vibrant community farm with a strong agroforestry/forest farming component. The effort is now seeking passionate wild harvesters, regenerative graziers, herbalists, and creative regenerative entrepreneurs to join this initiative in 2024/25. You will gain access to farmland located on a 7,000-acre reclaimed mountain-top coal mine site located in Eastern Kentucky in Clark and Martin Counties.
The Appalachian Renewal Project through its’ Future Farm Appalachai grant funded program:
- Low Cost/No Cost Land Access: Exclusive long-term lease arrangements with plot size based on your enterprise experience and potential. No upfront rental payment or land purchase costs needed to get started.
- Access to free business training and shared equipment: Hands-on support through a central training and demonstration farm, shared natural products processing equipment, and large-scale seedling nursery
- A Regeneration Venture Incubator & Community: Grant funding is in place now, enabling the project to offer participants technical assistance, new business guidance, and resources to help you learn how to access start-up financing and grow your enterprise
- Long Term infrastructure & support through social impact revenue sharing model: Producers will have an option to contribute a percentage of their future revenue in exchange for immediate access to land and resources, and shared processing and other high cost infrastructure. A huge value and unique opportunity to explore your small farm dream, and an wealth generating entry point for low income and new farmers. This is an excellent way for new farmers or those looking to scale, to access large tracts of land to develop their eco or social regeneration venture, or explore their business idea with a knowledgeable team to assist them every step of the way.
This social impact project aims to cultivate multiple enterprise farms grown out of a central farm incubator and processing hub, demonstrating the immense economic potential of over 1 million acres of abandoned coal mines located in the region. Partnerships with local universities provide research opportunities, while grant funding and federal rural development programs support your business.
Whether you’re a new farmer, a BIPOC, LGBTQ+, non-binary individual, person with disabilities, a woman entrepreneur, a veteral, or an experienced mentor, this is a low-cost, high-potential opportunity to make a real impact.
